A Safe Space to Grow

About My Practice

My goal is to offer a safe, nurturing, and empowering space where you can heal and make the changes you seek.

I believe the body, mind, and spirit have a natural capacity to heal. With the right environment and guidance, that process can unfold. Yet, defense mechanisms and old patterns can keep us stuck—sometimes we need to interrupt them to create meaningful change.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Washington State Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP). I have served as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for Thurston and Mason Counties, and I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Since 2008, I have primarily used EMDR as a core modality in my private practice.

Client-Centered Approach

My work is individually stylized to fit your needs, comfort, values, and resources. Drawing on a variety of therapeutic orientations, including but not limited to: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), I use a client-centered approach that includes the use of guided imagery and empowerment.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

Activates the Brain

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, right/left eye movement, or tactile stimulation, or sound, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are "trapped" in the nervous system. Use of the bilateral stimulation has been shown to be an effective and rapid way to process that “stuck” material. The memory of the experience remains, but the negative impact will be neutralized.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Scientifically Supported

CBT is based on the scientifically supported assumption that most emotional and behavioral reactions are learned. Therefore, the goal is to help unlearn unwanted reactions and develop a new response. CBT is highly instructive and makes use of at-home assignments.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Problem-Solving Solutions

SFBT focuses on what you want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that made you seek help. I will guide you in the process of envisioning your preferred future and assist with problem-solving skills that will help you achieve your goals.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one, which has been open for us.

Let go of rejection and focus on self-reflection. For it is within that you will find the light that you seek.

Tips for You

Whatever your reason for seeking help, your experience will be more positive and productive if you know what to expect.

Your first session would be used to explore your history and current circumstances and establish some goals for therapy.

Be active.

This is a collaborative experience. Your active participation in sessions will enhance your progress.

Be open.

I can do my job more effectively if you are open and honest. A lot will be going through your head, especially in the first session. Listen to your own reactions and feelings, and share them with me. We'll both learn from these insights.

Be prepared.

One way to prepare for your sessions is to write down your thoughts and feelings outside of the sessions.  Read it out loud.  Hearing yourself say it may help you sort things out and be able to describe it more clearly at our sessions.

Ask questions.

Feel free to ask questions about the therapy process and for me to repeat or explain anything you don't understand.

Be realistic.

Be sure to go to your first session with realistic expectations. Therapy is not a quick fix for your problem, but rather a process. With effort on your part and a strong therapeutic relationship, counseling can be a successful tool toward resolving problems.

Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.
