Meet Jane
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Washington State Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP). I have also been a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) for Thurston and Mason Counties. Additionally, I am certified in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have primarily utilized this modality in my private practice since 2008.

Counseling Approach
My work is individually stylized to fit your needs, comfort, values, and resources. Drawing on a variety of therapeutic orientations including but not limited to: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), I use a client centered approach that includes the use of guided imagery and empowerment.
Modalities
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, right/left eye movement, or tactile stimulation, or sound, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are "trapped" in the nervous system. Use of the bilateral stimulation has shown to be an effective and rapid way to process that “stuck” material. The memory of the experience remains, but the negative impact will be neutralized.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is based on the scientifically supported assumption that most emotional and behavioral reactions are learned. Therefore, the goal is to help unlearn unwanted reactions and use a new way of reacting. CBT is highly instructive and makes use of at home assignments.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy
SFBT focuses on what you want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that made you seek help. I will guide you in the process of envisioning your preferred future and assist with problem solving skills that will move you in the preferred direction.
